Heirloom Long Island Improved Brussels Sprouts Planting Instructions

For the best flavor, grow Brussels sprouts during cool weather.

Before planting, turn the soil under to a depth of 8 inches. Plant the seeds in well-worked soil 2 to 4 inches apart in rows 2 feet apart and cover with 1/4 inch of fine soil. Firm lightly and water gently.

The plants will do best with full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Grow time is between 85 and 110 days.

Brussels sprout plants are ready for harvest when the sprouts reach about 1 to 2 inches in diameter, roughly 85 to 110 days after sowing.

Harvest from the bottom of the stalk upwards as the sprouts mature. They will have the best flavor after a light frost.
